Bone Grafting

Rebuild the Foundation of Your Smile

Bone grafting is a common and highly effective procedure performed by periodontists to restore lost bone in the jaw. This treatment is often necessary when gum disease, tooth loss, or trauma has caused the jawbone to deteriorate over time. A healthy and strong jawbone is essential not only for supporting natural teeth but also for placing dental implants successfully. Bone grafting creates a stable, secure foundation—either to preserve the socket after a tooth extraction or to prepare the area for future implant placement.

Socket Preservation (Ridge Preservation)

When a tooth is extracted, the surrounding bone naturally begins to shrink. To minimise this bone loss, we often perform socket preservation—a type of bone graft placed directly into the tooth socket immediately after extraction. This technique helps:

  • Maintain the shape and volume of the jawbone
  • Improves the future outcomes for dental implants or bridges

Bone Grafting with Dental Implants

For patients who have already lost bone in the jaw, bone grafting with implant placement may be required. In some cases, the graft is done prior to implant surgery and allowed to heal for several months. In other cases, the graft and implant can be placed at the same time, depending on the amount of bone available. This approach not only allows for the placement of dental implants with optimal length and width in restorative driven position but also enables us to restore both function and natural esthetics.
